ESSENTIAL OILS: Trying Them For the First Time

So after my morning dance class today, a friend of my dance instructor gave a talk on essential oils, where we got to try lots of different oils and she told us about how they’re made and how they can help people. I really didn’t know a thing about these oils before the talk, but they got me really intrigued about how they can help to heal aches and pains or lift your mood – so I’m going to try them out and give an update of how they affect my life…

BACKGROUND:

So just to clarify, the main reason I even went to this talk was to support my dance instructor as I didn’t want there to a be a disappointing turnout for her friend. I was also interested in the oils, but that was my main reason for staying (I needn’t have worried, as the talk was very popular). So I went into this morning having no clue that these oils existed and knowing nothing about their healing properties.

WHAT ARE ESSENTIAL OILS?

They are the oils that come from plants. They are pure and natural, with no artificial chemicals or medicines. They come either from pressure (i.e. squeezing an orange to get its juices) or distillation (boiling the plant in water to release its oil). So they are not a drug, and as such they don’t come with the nasty side effects that can be a result of taking medication. To clarify: there are lots of brands, but this talk was about doTERRA oils (which are very pure) – the person giving the talk had tried lots of brands but she felt that this one had the most positive effect on her life. This brand is also vegan and cruelty-free.

HOW CAN THEY HELP?

So I don’t have any major illnesses or difficulties so I wasn’t sure how these would help me, but these oils can be useful for basically all aspects of life. You can either inhale them, taste them or apply them directly onto your body. They can:

  • soothe aches and pains, especially following exercise
  • help with asthma, colds and sore throats
  • ease headaches, migraines, cramps, arthritis
  • clear up acne, dry skin
  • aid digestion and queasiness

But I was most interested by how they can change the way you feel:

  • lift your mood
  • help to calm anxiety
  • relax you
  • produce a better night’s sleep

WHY I DECIDED TO GIVE THEM A GO:

I mean the list of benefits really seems endless, but also as they are completely natural I just thought that there was no harm in trying something that could have a really positive impact on my life. They are also really interesting, as each plant i.e. lavender, lemon, rose comes with different healing properties and it fascinates me to see how they can affect the body and the mind. They are also really good value for money, as you only need a drop to feel the effects. Take for example the lemon oil at £7 – with about 250 drops in just a 15ml bottle, it will last for ages.

MY TRIAL TESTER:

I’ve ordered a lemon oil (for a happier mood – plus I just love the smell of lemon), lavender (for relaxation) and balance (a blend of plants that helps to relieve stress and anxiety). So I’m excited to try them. In the meantime, I have a tester of Wild Orange (£8.50 for 15ml), which has a wonderful citrus smell! The description says that it is good for boosting immunity, has powerful antioxidants for overall health and will energise and uplift the mind. It can be inhaled, rubbed on a particular area or taken in a drink. I am going to add a drop to a glass of water a day and also inhale it in the evening and will investigate the effect it has and report back next week!

So I’m very excited to try these oils, as lots of people I know have had really positive experiences and have had ailments heal and disappear after using them, so I am optimistic about their potential. So do try them if you’re interested.

Lots of love,

Sunny Kitty

I love DoTerra! Their oils and blends are so amazing. Did you know that you can use them in recipes? Oregano in pasta sauce, peppermint in brownies for mint chocolate brownies, and (my favorite) wild orange in icing for cranberry scones! So delicious. Try it out! 🙂

I just posted a DIY using DoTerra oils on my blog. Here’s the link: https://katiecorsello.wordpress.com/2016/04/09/all-natural-bath-salts-give-diy-a-try/. Hope you check it out!!! 🙂

Yes! Lemon water is great. And if you ever have headaches when you wake up in the morning, try drinking some lemon water before bed! It really helps reduce that. 🙂
