QUOTE OF THE WEEK: Healthy Competition

So here it is:

THE ONLY PERSON YOU SHOULD TRY TO BE BETTER THAN, IS THE PERSON YOU WERE YESTERDAY.

ANON.

MEANING:

In our lives we often constantly compare ourselves to other people around us – be they celebrities, friends or family, we often put ourselves down by drawing a comparison with someone else’s desired qualities. This quote tells us that this is never a good thing!

Instead you should only use your previous self as the benchmark for success and never anyone else. Only be in competition with yourself – as this is healthy competition which will only help you grow and above all never belittle yourself and your achievements.

This way of thinking and acting is also achievable, so won’t bring failed hopes, as you can always be better than yourself – as you hold that power entirely within yourself. Positive self-change is essential for growth and you should strive to be yourself, never try to be better than someone else.

HOW TO USE IT:

Everyday you can probably think of at least ten small things that you did yesterday that you could have done better – be it eating more healthy, not snapping at your family or turning your lights off when you leave the room. This quote encourages us to change the little things so that slowly you will start to be happy with yourself and your life in a big way.

Whenever you start to compare yourself to someone else, stop and think about the things about yourself that you can change and only about how you could improve yourself based on your own past, not someone else’s. Never compete with someone else – for if you strive to lose your individuality, then the battle is already lost!

You can just be better than yourself and be proud with the person standing in the mirror today – who is certainly much better than the same person yesterday!

Lots of love,

Sunny Kitty
