So this new healthy trend of substituting vegetables for pasta has been everywhere – but I could not be bothered with getting a spiralizer and making the stuff myself. Turns out the supermarkets are 100 percent on trend as you can buy it ready made!! Props to them for being excellent consumer researchers. But here’s why butternut squash pasta is, in my view, far superior to pasta made from courgettes…
SAINSBURY’S COURGETTI
Okay so this wasn’t terrible but there were a number of issues. The taste was really still too vegetable-like for me. But the main problem by far was that the courgettes were just so watery – they didn’t loose all their water in the cooking – so they just watered down the sauce. So not that great really. 4/10.
MARKS AND SPENCERS BUTTERNUT NOODLES
However! The butternut squash spaghetti I bought today was fantastic!! The instructions say to microwave it, but I boiled it for a minute and then quickly sautéed it for a minute and it worked out a treat! It looks more like spaghetti and tastes way more similar – you really do forget you’re having a healthy vegetable and not a complex carbohydrate. 9.5/10.
Sainsbury’s and Marks and Spencers both do courgetti and squashetti, I thoroughly recommend the butter nut squash pasta!! So yummy and healthy! Go buy it!
Lots of love,
