QUOTE OF THE WEEK: Change yourself, Change the World!

And this week’s quote is:

Be the change you want to see in the world.

Mahatma Gandhi

MEANING:

Plain and simple – this quote says it all in just 10 words. We can often get quite depressed by some of the many terrible things that go on in the world around us and it is very easy to blame other people for these things. This quote teaches us that we should stop seeing the power to change our world in other people, but to recognise our own power in society.

It is very easy to tell people that they should change, that they are doing things wrong – but it is far harder to actually look at yourself and change your attitude to life. However, this quote tells us that this is exactly what we should be doing. As if we live the way we want everyone to live, we may just inspire those around us and that love and compassion will spread out across society.

HOW TO USE IT:

Next time you feel disheartened about humans polluting the atmosphere – start by making a change yourself. Switch off those lights, go solar powered, write a Facebook post encouraging people to reduce their waste and limit their energy use.

Next time you feel upset about people who go without basic necessities and shelter, instead of feeling powerless or blaming others, make a change yourself. Buy a homeless person some lunch or better yet chat to them and treat them as a human being. Sign a human rights petition on change.org and do something for the greater good.

Whilst this quote should encourage you to take action, I think that more than anything it reminds us that changing our attitude can also be as powerful as completing loads of good deeds. If we live our lives with love, hope and compassion for ourselves and those around us – we can not just bring about a better world, but we can live it right now! So really do embody the way you would like the world to be and we might just get one step closer to reaching it and living it everyday!

Lots of love,

Sunny Kitty
