I’ve always loved playing records, often just for the fun of getting them all out of their sleeves and letting the sound fill the room, but I didn’t quite realise until I went into a big music shop today that you can buy recently released albums as records too and new record players! Vinyl is back!

Everyone says that records have an amazing sound that you can’t get on iPods, it sounds snobby I know. So don’t get me wrong, I LOVE my iPod and think it is amazing to have so many songs at my fingertips wherever I go. However, after listening to my parents’ old records this afternoon, I must admit their sound quality is fantastic! They are not as pure and produced as mp3 tracks, but I think it almost makes the quality better – you feel like you’re in the recording studio with the artist and the sound really does fill the whole house!

The reason I’ve never really seriously considered getting a record player is that I thought I would only be able to listen to old albums, so it would be a pointless investment for all the things I like to listen to now. But they sell records for new artists like:

It is now in your power to do so!

Now they are obviously more expensive than an album on iTunes, but in a way I think it means that you have to really pick an album that you love from the beginning to end. I really lament the loss of the album as a whole piece of art that is released, as I grew up on cds – so this is a way to really immerse yourself once again in one artist’s sound.

My other main concern was: how will I find a good record player? But it turns out you can get them online, from music shops and even PC World. With a range of styles and prices to choose from, some that are even portable and have line-in cables to attach them to big speakers – you can get a new record player!

So if you love amazing, quality, sound in your music and want to dance around or curl up to your favourite album, vinyl could well be for you!

Lots of love,

Sunny Kitty
